The Typhlological Museum

We are sending you a part of our atmosphere from the Night of museums held for the 8th time. In the upcoming weeks we will be presenting some Zagreb museums. Please do follow our work! The first museum to be acquainted with is the Typhlological museum.

Typhlological Museum - slide show

The Typhlological Museum is one of the rare special museums in Europe dealing with the problems of disabled persons, especially of the visually impaired. The Typhlological Museum is a specialized museum, and its name comes from the Greek words "typhlos" (blind) and "logos" (narration, speech, thought, reason). The Museum is a public governmental institution that collects, stores, researches, documents and communicates tangible and non-tangible materials related to people with special needs, with an emphasis on people with visual impairment. The basic idea Museum want to convey is the promotion of equal opportunities for all people regardless of sex, age, social status or any other form of difference. The idea to found the Museum was inspired by the teacher Vinko Bek, a typhlo-pedagogue and a great fighter for the rights of blind people. The Dark Room, as you can guess from its name, is completely dark. It is our way of getting acquainted with, or better to say, trying to simulate the inability to receive information from the environment using sight. On the other hand, everybody is free to awaken all other senses – hearing, smell, taste and touch. Art work by blind authors demonstrates creative grasp of blind people in the area of art. Introducing our project to the Greek parents..

Students  and teachers  made  leaflets in order  to inform the parents for this  collaborative project.   This was a part of  a wider event  concerning  the best aware  of  them, which took place at the school  today.
